» Which US Supreme Court decisions do you think should not have been made?
I personally think women should have the right to choose, but Roe v. Wade to me is unconstitutional and the issue should be left to the states. Roper v. Simmons (ending capital punishment for juveniles) I also find fault with.Roe v. Wade, Bush v. Gore, Brown v. the Board of Education- sometimes separate actually is equal Recognizing corporations as having the same rights as individuals. This was a huge mistake, and has led us directly to the current financial crisis. That decision allowed the growth of corporate power and influence on capitol hill. It created the culture of the lobbyist; and allowed companies to use their profits to influence politicians to vote in favor of their issues.Bush v. Gore was the biggest load of monkey turds e...... - 2009-07-03
» The Myserious Cookie Problem!
Hey Kirupians, i decided to come back to actionscript after something like 1.5 years so im pretty rusty on some things. Anyway, as part of a school project im supposed to be creating this "Pupil Progress" program which takes details such as pupil ID and password , saves them to a cookie and then connects to a MySQL database to retireve their grades etc. This isnt as easy as i thought it would be, and ive already ran into problems saving/loading the cookie. If someone with a greater knowledge could maybe have a go and see what stupid minor mistake ive made, that would be great :) Since the file is just under 1mb, you'll have to click the link below to retrieve it. http://amps.ecwhost.com/files/kirupacookie.zip Thanks.Anyon...... - 2009-07-03

» Upgrading...would this be a smart move?
Right now, I've got a server (Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz, 512 MB of RAM, 80GB 7200RPM hard drive, Redhat Linux 7.2, Ensim WEBppliance 3.1) with RackShack.net, costing me $129/month. It's OK, but I've been having a lot of unknown and unsolvable problems with it. But, it's brand new, and to be quite honest with you I think I got a lemon. I have to reboot the thing every day just to keep it running! My old server I had with them was not this troublesome. So, I've been researching a bit, and have now found a highly respected Nocster reseller offering a much more powerful server (Dual Xeon 2.0 Ghz, 1GB DDR RAM, 73GB SCSI hard drive, Redhat Linux, cPanel, FULLY MANAGED) for $198/month. I'm only running one main website on this server, with a vB forum of...... - 2009-07-03

» 80's pop lyrics as haiku
I am looking for a hit 80's pop song that can be broken down perfectly into a series of haiku. By "hit 80's pop song" I would prefer a song that ranked #1 in the Billboard Single chart in the United States between 1980 and 1989, but would accept anything that was once ranked in the top 40. By "haiku" I mean a 17 syllable poem arranged in 5-7-5 format. I am willing to forgo the normal Japanese requirement of a seasonal reference in haiku. Haiku must contain complete words, with no breaks between words (ie, if you have the word "super", you cannot put "su" at the end of one line and "per" at the start of another) Syllables should be broken down as recommended on dictionary.com http://dictionary.reference.com/ As an e...... - 2009-07-03
» Kanye.....No Respect?
Why is it that after his 4 classic albums that he produced himself, and countless singles that rocked the nation Kanye West is still not getting the respect he deserves. People call him "conceited" and a "sellout" for using the auto-tuner in his new album. People still have rappers like Jay-Z and Weezy ahead of Kanye. Am I the only one that believes Kanye is miles and miles ahead of those two?No your not the only one. i love Kanye West and his music! Personally i prefer him over Jay-z any day haha but yeah he does deserve more respect but hey its just people hating on him!he's good but he has taken a different path to hip hop. also due to his arrogance several times over da years. but i believe kanye has been able to build a bridge ...... - 2009-07-03

I do all 35mm photography at the moment and I would like to get into digital photography. Know my question is what a quick and easy way in the field to transfer your pictures off your camera memory card and into someother storage device? I heard you can use ipods. I also heard you can get about 40 raw shots out of 512 mb stick so how do I go about taking 100s of high quality pictures without spending thousand plus dollars on memory sticks. If the Camera I use makes any difference I am thinking of getting the 20D.there are lots of ways to transport. personally I prefer leaving things on the memory card until I bring them home, especially if I'm only going to be working for the day. One thing I am interested in learning is how to capture the color I see. I know it is possible to take a photograph of something that is not so vibrantly colored and it seems to be so. I would rather not deal with Photoshop and would love to learn how to capture color and what I see via the camera. For knowledge purpose I have a Nikon D40. Very basic camera, but I love it so. If you are unsure of what I mean, please let me know. I will describe it as much as I can. Thank you!The purists out there are about to have a heart attack when I say this, but try something and see what you think. The good news is that one of the strenghths of the D40 is the ability it has to record really kicking colors. Whatever else people say about the...... - 2009-07-03

» Things with ___ cannot share the same space at the same time?
Fill i nthe blank please! is it matter or mass?Either fits and basically they are the same thing. Matter is anything that has mass as a propertyFrom a linguistic standpoint, mass is correct in that sentence, though I'm sure either would get the point across.since matter is the "thing" in your question, the answer is mass.Mass, since that would be the most precise word for the question.matter Things with matter cannot share the same place at the same timemass and mass and matter are not very related. matter is composed of atoms (the building blocks of matter) anything subatomic is not matter, but it may have mass, such as protons, neutrons, electrons, quarks. mass is not the amount of matter, it is the resistance to acceleration by a...... - 2009-07-03

I did not like the first that much because of shotgun how people use to roll around and kill you.If you liked the first game then it's a buy. I never played the first one, but Gears 2 is good. When fighting one on one, keep rolling and try to out-manuever him/her. » !!! Use Vista without activation for 120 days !!!
It's widely assumed that a newly installed copy of Windows Vista must be "activated" before 30 days are up. But Microsoft has built into Vista a simple, one-line command that anyone can use to extend the activation deadline of the product to a total of 120 days — almost four full months! How to extend the Vista activation deadline The concept of "activation" has become familiar to computer users ever since Microsoft introduced it into the licensing for Windows XP. After installing Windows, you have a 30-day "trial period" to either activate the product or let it lose some functionality. You can activate XP or Vista by allowing the software to contact Microsoft's servers via your Internet connection. Or, if you're paranoid abou...... - 2009-07-03
» Who is T. G.G. Fennigu
I'm trying to find an artist named T. G.G. Fennigu who painted a picture of a clipper ship named "Nordstjernen" in 1885. I don't know if he is an American artist of a Scandanavian artist. The ship apparently existed both in Norway as its registry was Bergen, Norway but I believe it also made it to the west coast of San Francisco or had as its captain a Christian I. Pedersen "Petersen". Christian Pedersen came to San Francisco somewhere between 1882-1885 and settled here with his family. He is my great-grandfather and I am trying to find a link between him and the painting the Nordstjernen. Are there any other paintings by this artist? This is most puzzling. "Fennigu" seems not to be a family name in Norwegian or any other Eur...... - 2009-07-03

Anyone here also enjoy listening to J-pop from the 70s, 80s and early 90s? I've acquired quite a bit of J-music from this era (mainly of female artists) and I originally got interested in older J-pop thanks to W's covers of various 70s and 80s songs on their debut album. :-) doinkies knows that there are a couple fans of older artists here, so here's a place to talk about them, your favorite songs from them, maybe offer downloads if there's interest...etc. Enjoy!Hey どいんきぃず - Always enjoyed your posts over at JPopMusic. Thanks!there could be demage within the wall, you would be better off to pass on this one, unless your getting it for super good deal and plan on gutting entire interior this way all demage can be detected and properly repairFirst, you should get a professional home inspector to give you his take on the house and the extent of the termite damage before you buy. » What happens if someone decides to eat a lot of different medication at once? is death risk really high?
Yeah the death risk is very high! Your not suppose to take that much medication all at once!In my opinion, if someone decides to 'eat alot of medication' - they might want to seek out some professional help. I think most people would say, taking alot of ANY drug, is very bad idea. Advise that someone to see a doctor ASAP ! well only the Doctor should have that decision. Medication are chemicals. Chemicals sometimes dont mix well for humans and may be very dangerouse and most have side effects too. I hope all your medication is kept out of reach of those who may use it in such way.it depends upon what kind of medicine they take simultaneously example if they take anti hypertensive drugs with sleeping drugs, th...... - 2009-07-03

Looking at these two flashes. Can you please offer your ideas Metz 58 AF-1 Digital Flash or the Canon 580EX II For a Canon 350D. I amleaning towards the Metz Thankssome one must have one or the otherI've got a 350D and the 580EX (and a 430EX for that matter too) and find they work very well together, especially so with the ST-E2. I know that at one time you always used to get better integration with the camera manufacturers own flash kit, but I don't know whether that is still the case, especially when you're talking Metz gear. Why are you favouring the Metz gear, presumably you've seen something that suggests this may be the better option? If you have a Canon camera, and the budget for the 580 EX II, then there is no question. I'm looking at getting me a new DSLR, and the Canon Rebel XT is at the top of my list. How is this camera? It seems quite good from what I've read, but more info never hurts. I mostly shoot landscape stuff, trees, treelines, sunsets, etc. I figure I'll add a battery grip at least. What else should I get for it? I imagine a case and maybe a flash? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! The Rebel XT is indeed a good camera. As far as the kit lens, for the price it's good. You might want to buy something better at some point. » Religion ranting XP (Stupid 20 character rule)?
These are just my views, I'm curious how people will react... I feel religion is pointless. Why? First of all, in most religions I see, animals are not on equal footing with us. Why can't they have an afterlife? Why can't they go to heaven or hell, or anywhere else? After all, every life, no matter how small and weak, is still a life. Life is precious, to all. We all have a basic want; the life we hold dear to us, and we want to keep it for as long as we can. I can prove that. You see all those old people trying to get healthy? They're the ones that want to keep life, know how, and have the will to take action. Two, do you honestly think anything happens to us after death? It'll take logic for this pa...... - 2009-07-03

I have done some reading and I think tables on mysql-nt are InnoDB? Is this a potential problem? 2. The restore of my database (330mb) on the Windows server is taking an ungodly amount of time. Two months back, our landlord violated our rights by entering our home without notice or permission, and I contacted the police for trespassing and disturbing the peace. Since then, our tenant landlord relationship has severed. He is now filing eviction papers claiming unpaid rent, even though we have the rent receipts for the months in question. We have spoken with an attorney, and they advise us to move, but we're not willing to until our lease has expired. When our landl...... - 2009-07-03

I have been trying to quantify how many people work in the software industry. The Census and Bureau of Labor Statistics seem to break the numbers out into various categories and I cannot be sure I have a grasp on all of them. For extra credit, I'd like to know how many work in software sales.Hello dherchen, Interesting question. The data I am aware of (which you may already be familiar with) is total employment data in the US for a few software-related categories: Applications software specialists Systems software specialists Computer programmers I'll also mention the category of: Computer/Info Systems Managers since many of them would likely have significant responsibilities regarding software as well. » Ad banners
Hi all, Jade brough to my attention that one of the ad banners displayed on this site had sound with it which could easily cause problems for people that are at work or other public places, which brings up a good point. It order to make revenue that will pay for some (and hopefully someday all) of the costs associated with running this site, I have elected to go with the advertising campaign you all see on this site. They will add and remove banners as they are purchased, and I may not always see all of the ads that may appear on this site. So, if you come across an ad that you feel could cause problems, or is just absolutely obnoxious to look at, please let me know. I can easily exclude ads from the site, but I need to have your h...... - 2009-07-03

I also heard you can get about 40 raw shots out of 512 mb stick so how do I go about taking 100s of high quality pictures without spending thousand plus dollars on memory sticks. If you are unsure of what I mean, please let me know. I will describe it as much as I can. Thank you!The purists out there are about to have a heart attack when I say this, but try something and see what you think. » Lightroom VS Photoshop: Should this be a matchup?
I started a search for Lightroom vs Photoshop and found -some- information to form an opinion. Yet, I'm still curious on other peoples opinions. What I've found leads me to believe that Lightroom is good for basic stuff, but for heavy manipulation, Photoshop trumps it. Lightroom good by itself? Use in unison with Photoshop? Give up digital photography all together? Heh, you get the picture. Anyone's opinion differ from that? Just throw out your thoughts on both programs if you'd like.I love Lightroom - its quick n' dirty :greenpbl: It's just simple and easy to get good results within short time... All the basic stuff is available and that's what I just need in 90% anyway... I'm not a Photoshop-Pro or anything, just basic knowled...... - 2009-07-03
» How to shoot this picture
I have a black wall with inscription and carvings Everything is in black. The wall is lit by bright sunlight. How do I take the picture of this wall showing the details of the inscriptions and the carvings. 1. Should I apply the sunny 16 rule and come up with a perfect exposure. 2. Should I meter the incident sunlight and determine my exposure 3. Should I meter the reflected light from the wall and underexpose by 1 stop as black has the reflectance of 9% and my meter is based on 18% grey tone.Option 3 would be my guess. I would bracket 1 and 2 stops below meter reading.my guess would be... just take the friggin picture! just kidding. #3 mdbracket a couple of stops either side of your reading you'll get one of them ...... - 2009-07-03
» New Name for a School
Our school - Video Symphony - is moving and we are considering the possibility of renaming ourselves. I am willing to pay $50 to whoever suggests the name I like best, regardless of whether we use it or not. You can see what we are about at www.videosymphony.com .I dunno...that's a good name, and you have 1st result in a search for that name. If you change it, make sure you include the old name on the new site. Be that as it may, Video Synthony and Video Synergy both return no results specific to that name, and might be good alternatives. sublime1-gaI agree that Video Symphony is a catchy name. If you want a change, how about something that directly mentions the "career" aspect of your school... * Career Video * Vid...... - 2009-07-03
» Re Spell/Grammar Check
Not sure if this is a local problem on my downtrodden pc or not, but sometimes when I'm posting or pm'ing (as it has just done twice) and hit the apostrophe a Find banner opens on the bottom of the screen that won't allow further typing for about five seconds. If I hit the space bar next, the screen jumps the text to the top or bottom, away from the cursor which must be relocated and reclicked to start typing again. Is there a way to disable this? I'd rather have embarrasing language and punctuation than frustrating distraction. Edit: I just put up the Site Tutorial message without the apostrophe causing this. Hmmm.... I hope this is not as blindly ignorant a post as my last concerning leaving the mark all topics read was... ...... - 2009-07-03

I work in admin for a window blind company and am finding it really confusing when doing quotes. Because i'm so used to doing 17.5 % i keep automatically working VAT out at this instead of the 15% just cant drum it in! lol Anyone else having this problem? Here's a tip .. in Excel, generate a 'formula' for a cell next to the Prive total .. call the next cell 'VAT' (formual is Price * 0.15) and a second cell called 'Quote' (formula = Price + VAT) PS ... you can get the same result using a Calculator (Quote = Price * 1.15 ..)No 15% is easier to work out than 17.5 %...... - 2009-07-03

Anyone here also enjoy listening to J-pop from the 70s, 80s and early 90s?

I found a deal at amazon.com, it includes the XT and Canon's EF-S 18-55mm, f3.5-5.6 zoom lens. Is this lens a good all-around one?

» SMF 1.0.1 Vs. vB3.0.6
I should start off by saying that we are rookies at this so please speak in English!! We have SMF (Simlpe Machine forum) (http://www.simplemachines.org) set up on a test website and we just leased vB for one year as a test. We need to pick a forum that work for us and if our plans work out we will be using (maybe) 200 to 300 forums. SMF 1.0.1 Is free and no costs involved just to keep a link and other small things on our page. I have many questions but these are the ones that come to mind. The easier the better right now until we learn what we are doing. How easy is it to transfer SMF to vB? How flexible is vB to adjust to our needs? Can we use our adds on the same page (header, footer ,right left) or does the forum page have to stay t...... - 2009-07-03
» Urgent advice needed
My FreeBSD server recently experienced a mysql issue we could not resolve. My forums are very busy (500 users online at peak) and we made the decision to load Mysql on a spare windows server while we did a fresh install on the BSD server. This is happening as I speak. The Windows server is: WIndows 2000/mysql4.1x. Dual P3/1.5gb/scsi. My questions: 1. Are there any known issues moving a database to mysql running on windows and then moving back to mysql running on freebsd? My tables are all MYISAM. I have done some reading and I think tables on mysql-nt are InnoDB? Is this a potential problem? 2. The restore of my database (330mb) on the Windows server is taking an ungodly amount of time. So far we are 2 hours in and barely half way...... - 2009-07-03
» How can I protect my tenant rights? ?
I've been renting a house in California with my husband and children for the past 7 months. We signed a one year lease with the landlord, which expires in April 2009. The landlord has never provided us a copy of the lease, even after multiple demands for one.

Best RegardIf you are looking for an analysis, you may want to consider increasing your price considerably. » Local /State politics
What is the special order 40? I heard on some talk show commentaries about this "policy" the law enforcement officers were precluded from asking the 'status of arrestee'(illegal or legal, especially in L.A. County here in California?!). Seemed to me this policy had been sneaked in (typical 'special-interest' way of doing things)without the public fully knowing its intent. Who did start it, putting this 'lopsided law' into effect ?The answer to this question should be of help: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=718601Thanks for the guide, myoarin-ga. As a legal U.S. citizen I certainly oppose this kind of sneaky policy pro ILLEGAL entry of immigrants into U.S. border/s -- appropriately they shou...... - 2009-07-03
» Employment in software
I a...... - 2009-07-03
